How To Expand Your Resume

You want to break into the job market and you feel you are at a disadvantage because you have no work history to show on your resume. This is a common problem; it affects all first-time job seekers, and is one that can damage your confidence. Having no employment history is not as big an issue as it may seem. There are plenty of ways to show future employers that you do in fact have an array of experience under your belt. There are a number of easy ways to gain experience that you can then add to your work history; the easiest solution is to become a volunteer. There are a number of organizations who are always on the lookout for workers, including charitable and government institutions. They will provide work to just about anyone. While the work may not be glamorous getting some experience is better than none at all. volunteering is also a good way of getting references so it is very important that you maintain a good relationship with your supervisor. There are many fund raisers these days and volunteering for special functions geared towards raising cash for a cause is a great way to bulk up your resume. If you can get to work in the areas involving organization and management of the event, you'll pick up important skills that make you stand out to potential employers. You'll also show those people that might hire you in the future that you're interested in working, not just making a fast buck, as volunteer positions rarely come with any form of compensation, other than free access to the event. Being involved with an independent enterprise is another possible source of work experience. Any serious attempts and involvement that you had with money making enterprises, whether you're own or someone else's, show initiative and motivation. Independent enterprise is not as easy to come across as opportunities to volunteer, but they are a very good option for gaining necessary work experience. When it comes to expanding the educational achievements on your resume, these are no more difficult than volunteering, in finding ways to increase your attractiveness to employers. This section is not restricted to the diplomas that may take years to complete, but is a place to include certification programs that often require little more than forty or so hours of instruction to complete. Courses could be anything from computer programming to private investigating and are available and most community colleges or similar educational facilities. Ideally you should have of course that is related to the job you're hoping to land. This is not always the case as any courses and certifications you have completed will show initiative, something all employers are looking for in first time job applicants. There are plenty of opportunities to bulk up a thin resume and, at the same time, show potential employers that you have work experience and the skills their company might need. A motivated mother might put down how she's organized and scheduled the daily activities of a group of two or three highly active individuals. What's most important when you're a first time job seeker is showing employers, by way of your resume, that you have the drive and determination they need, as well as the dedication and ambition to seek what you want.
